Where Are Help Comes From

God watches over us every day, 24/7. How do I know that? Psalm 121.

The promises in Psalm 121 are as true for us today as they were thousands of years ago. No matter what situation we face, we can rely on the God who created heaven and earth. Day or night, today through eternity, God promises provision and protection for all who follow Him (Psalm 121:5-8).

There is no situation that God is not aware of. Trusting in the Lord is the safest place for us to be. Why?  Because, Our Helper is also our Keeper. The One who watches over us never sleeps, He is all ways with us. The One who guards our souls cannot be moved.

This Psalm is a tremendous encouragement to me. I hope it is to you as well.

Gracious Father, Thank you Lord that our lives are in your hands. You protect us in ways we will never know. And, though we might suffer difficulty in this life, we know we are eternally safe with you.  Help us to realize that we do not walk alone, that you are always with us now and forever.  In Jesus name we pray, Amen

Lead Me To The Rock

When you feel overwhelmed, when you begin to feel hopeless, when you lose heart, cry out to the Lord. He is your Rock, your Strong Tower, your Safe Refuge from the storm.   The God you serve is a mighty God. He will protect you and He will keep you safe and deliver you!

Always remember God’s great love for you. Remind yourself of His loving faithfulness and of all the times He has come through for you. Count your blessings and refuse to waver in your faith and trust in Him.

Psalm 34:19 says, Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.

It helps to be so grounded in God’s Word that when you face these tests, trials, afflictions, storms, and outright assaults from the enemy, you will not waver, be swayed or shaken.

  • Psalm 91:2 (KJV) I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust.
  • Isaiah 54:17 (NKJ) No weapon formed against you shall prosper…
  • Luke 10:19-20 (NKJ) Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
  • 1 John 4:4 (KJV) Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.
  • 1 Corinthians 15:57-58 (NIV) But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you.

Empathy is what we need!

empathy

We all need Empathy

What better way to represent our Lord and serve others than with the gift of empathy?

Christ is the ultimate example of empathy. He literally put himself in our place when He died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. So when God allows us to go through a hardship, we should consider it a privilege to suffer as our Lord Jesus suffered and use our experience to bless others.

We find several examples of empathy in action in the Bible. Jesus was always sensitive to the plight of others. Matthew tells us how Jesus, “when he saw the crowds, . . . had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd” (Matt 9:36). On another occasion, Jesus observed a widow about to bury her only son. Sensing her pain (the NLT says that Jesus’ “heart overflowed with compassion”), He approached the funeral procession and resurrected the young man (Luke 7:11-16). Having lived a human life, our Lord can and does empathize with all of our weaknesses (see Hebrews 4:15).

The word compassion describes the deep mercy of God. God is the very best at empathy: “He knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust” (Psalm 103:14). He personally feels the pain of His people: “You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book” (Psalm 56:8,). How comforting it is to know that God records all our tears and all our struggles! How good to remember God’s invitation to cast all our cares upon Him, “because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7)!

As Christians, we have a higher calling. We have been bought at a price and are no longer our own, but humble servants to our King. The greatest commandments are to love our Lord with all our hearts, minds and souls, and to love others as ourselves. In a world rampant with selfishness, vanity, bullying and greed, God offers a better way. We are after all His hands and feet, and what better way to represent our Lord and serve others than with the gift of empathy?

Lead Me Lord

From the end of the earth I will cry to You,
When my heart is overwhelmed;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I.  Psalm 61:2

One thing I love about reading through the book of Psalms is that each Psalm usually begins with a heavy heart, and ends in praise and rejoicing. Psalm 61 is no exception.

If you’re in need of some encouragement this week, just remember, God hears you when you cry, and when you’re overwhelmed; all you need to do is talk to Him. He will lead you and protect you!

Lord, when my heart is overwhelmed, overwhelm me with Your peace.  Lead me to You, my rock.  Guide me to Your Word which gives me strength and refuge.  Help me not to run to lesser things.  Draw me to run to You first.  Help me get into the habit of taking my “overwhelmed” and placing it under your will.  Thank You, Lord.  In Jesus Name, Amen

The Lord Is Good

psalm_34_8_by_gyldenbend

O taste and see that the LORD is good; How blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him! Psalm 34:8

“Taste and see that the Lord is good.” This is an invitation to us to take God at his word, to trust in the Lord and experience his goodness, to know God personally, realizing that he loves us more than we can ever imagine.

David is urging us to do just that. He is inviting us to experience what he has discovered: the goodness of God’s salvation. David is celebrating that God has rescued him from his fears and troubles.  We are promised great blessings from God to his people. He will deliver, guard, supply, listen, and redeem all who trust in his power to save. We seek to honor him in all things, speak truthfully, seek peace and justice, and humbly serve our God.

Help me, dear Father, to know you better. Open my heart, dear Lord, so that I will more fully entrust myself to your care. Open my eyes to see just how gracious you are to me. Thank you for your goodness. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Psalms 119:103  “How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!”

Wisdom

fear of the lord

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.  Proverbs 9:10

” Fearing ” the Lord in the biblical sense of the word is not being afraid of Him, nor is it being afraid that the Lord is going to destroy you because of your sinful nature.

Believers are not to be scared of the Lord. We have no reason to be scared of Him. We have His promise that nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:38-39). We have His promise that He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). Fearing the Lord means having such a reverence for Him that it has a great impact on the way we live our lives. The fear of the Lord is respecting Him, obeying Him, submitting to His discipline, and worshiping Him in awe.

PROVERBS 8:13 ” The Fear of the Lord is to hate evil. Pride and arrogance and the evil way. And the perverted mouth, I hate.

As we fear the Lord and honor Him desiring to do His will, the Lord will then give us His wisdom, and insight so that we can discern right from wrong, and have good success in all that we do.

A biblical fear of the Lord, for the believer, includes understanding how much God hates sin and fearing His judgment.  Even in the life of a believer.Hebrews 12:5-11 describes the Lord’s discipline/chastisement of the believer. While it is done in love (Hebrews 12:6), it is still a fearful thing. As children, the fear of discipline from our parents no doubt prevented some wrong choices. The same should be true in our relationship with the Lord. We should fear His discipline, and therefore seek to live our lives in such a way that pleases Him.

Dear Lord, may we know your wisdom, the true wisdom, the spiritual wisdom that you give to those who come into a right relationship to you through Jesus Christ who reverentially fear you. Who worship you as an awesome God and who are committed to obey.

15 Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5 15-16

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5

The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, And his tongue speaks justice.  Psalm 37:30

Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil.  Proverbs 3:7

Greater Is He

greater is he

Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4

Knowing that God lives in you, and that He loves you, should alone banish all fear from your life. Fear of failure should have no place in our lives. Fear of what other people think should not bother you. Fear of problems that may come up should be of no concern. You have God living in you!

God, who lives in you, is greater. Greater than any problem. Greater than any difficulty. Greater than the devil. Greater than anything you will ever face.

When life gets tough and it feels like you can’t make it through, you can be encouraged. You have everything you need to be victorious in every area of your life.

Choose today to lean on the power of the one living in you, knowing that no matter what you face today, you’re not alone and you can overcome!  We can be assured that victory is ours, because God’s presence in us is greater than any force that we will ever face.

Dear Heavenly Father, please give me the confidence, boldness, and conviction of your promises. I want to live boldly for your glory and according to your will. Thank you for empowering me to live victoriously by your Spirit who lives within me. To you belong all glory, honor, majesty, and praise. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Seeking The Lord

34 4

David acknowledged that the Lord is close to those that are humble of heart, and who are ready and willing to seek Him in times of trouble, distress and danger. David was a man who feared God and held fast to His precious promises. All through David’s life he witnessed God’s faithfulness and David trusted in the Lord’s deliverance, when his own, frail heart was fainting.. from fear of what was coming on the earth.

The Lord has promised that if we seek Him, we will find Him, if we search for Him with all our heart.

What a gracious and wonderful God we have.. for while we were yet sinners Christ died for us, and together with David and a cloud of witnesses, we are able to testify: I also sought the LORD, and He answered me. And He delivered me from all my fears. –

Yes, we can rejoice and say with all the saints: I will bless the LORD at all times. His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul will make its boast in the LORD. The humble will hear it and rejoice. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together. I will bless the LORD at all times.. His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul will make its boast in the LORD. The humble will hear it and rejoice. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt His name together!

Heavenly Father, You are worthy to be praised and I will bless You at all times. I will  boast in the Lord, for I sought after You and You heard my cry and answered me. You have redeemed my life from the bondage of the evil one, and delivered me from all my fears. You have forgiven my sin and clothed me in Christ’s own righteousness, for His name’s sake – and You alone are worthy of my praise and thanksgiving forever and ever.  my Father and my God, I will seek you with all my heart, mind, soul, and strength. I want to know you more completely. I want to fully respond to your leading and your will in my life. Be near me today and always. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

Joy Comes In The Morning

joy comes

Have you experienced extreme sorrow? There is the promise of future joy amid your tears as you lean upon our loving Lord.

This verse has always been special to me, even as a small child I held out hope for the morning.  For me night was when my step father would come into my room and do horrible things that no child should ever have to endure.  So, this verse has always been my hope and assurance that a future joy amid my tears is promised.

I think we all need a reminder of who our God is and what He can do in times of hurt, pain and despair..We must know without a doubt that when our days of suffering and pains seems endless, God is there. God is Faithful and He will fulfill His promises.

22 Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed,
Because His compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning;
Great is Your faithfulness.  Lamentations 3 22-23

He knows what it’s like. He knows what it’s like to feel despised and rejected. He knows what it means to not have a single friend in the world. He knows what is hurting your heart right now.

And He cares.  He loves you.

You see, this thing that is happening to you is not what God desires for you. It’s not His will for you to mourn or grieve or be sad. It’s not His will for you to hurt, physically, emotionally, or mentally. He loves you, and He’s a good Father. He desires only the best for you in all things.

But we live in a fallen, sinful world. We live with imperfect circumstances and imperfect people all around us, who are also hurting. And sometimes that makes us hurt worse.

Be encouraged, keep the faith, keep believing, keep trusting, keep praying, keep witnessing, even in the midst of suffering and watch God!!! He will never fail you!!! JOY WILL COME IN THE MORNING!!!!
